"Hi, I'm Ashleigh Gass, strength and conditioning specialist with brilliantathlete.com. A probiotic diet...well, probiotics are the healthy bacteria that are...should be found in most of our intestines, as opposed to unhealthy bacteria, which will definitely grow in your body as a result of a very stressful lifestyle and very poor nutritional choices. So in order to increase healthy bacteria, it's important that you use foods like fruits, vegetables, and minimally processed foods. At this point, when you...when you consume these types of foods -- again, fruits, vegetables, lean meats, and healthy fats -- you will begin to have more healthy bacteria in your intestines than unhealthy bacteria. Now, if you're eating diet that is very high in processed foods and sugars, what you're doing is you're really feeding unhealthy bacteria. And so you might have to be taking probiotics, which are available in yogurt form or in supplement form on a continual basis in order just to balance yourself out. And it's more ideal that you change your diet so that you're on...you're not having to take probiotic supplements on a regular basis. So again, a diet that will lead to healthy bacteria is one that is rich in minimally processed foods, lots of fruits, lots of vegetables, more importantly, healthy fats and lean proteins.
